When it comes to runway modeling, you won’t see many smiles because it’s believed that adopting an emotionless facade helps steer viewers’ focus toward what really matters -the clothes! Essentially acting as human hangers for designers’ creations, models keep their faces neutral to exude poise and confidence that enhances overall garment presentation. Additionally, fashion modeling is seriously cut-throat- where models are weighed up on how well they can transmit vibes from their attire to captivate spectators’ eyes! Anything too distracting or out of place could cost them dearly. A smile may appear off-kilter or even portray an emotion ill-suited for portraying a particular style; hence it’s taboo on most catwalks.
However, exceptions do exist; some designers envision joyful expressions or other specific countenances for their presentations- but these are rare exceptions! The standard remains calm and neutral during catwalks.
