She made her acting debut with Girls when her father Brian Williams hosted Nightly News for NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams was still alive.

She also had a recurring role on Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as Kit Snicket and is an accomplished singer and musician; part of Just Add Water during her time at Yale University and American Dreams among other performances; short films.

Williams has extensive acting experience across a broad spectrum of genres from improv to musical theater, film, and television. Nominated for various awards (and winning some), her biggest break came when she was cast in Girls on HBO; which quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed shows on television.

Both parents worked in television; Brian worked on Nightly News while Jane Gillan Stoddard produced shows. Following its conclusion, Williams ventured into horror films by appearing as Rose in Get Out and The Perfection respectively before finally unleashing new hell with M3GAN– a Blumhouse release that follows an Android toy designer as her niece Violet McGraw becomes fiercely overprotective of its creator (via).

Williams, playing Gemma on M3GAN, marks a return to the type of characters she played in Marnie, though with an important twist: where Marnie often depicted a toxic white girl of privilege who was often thought of as clueless and self-centered, Allison Williams in real life is much more thoughtful and empathic; thus her participation in M3GAN showcases her ability to take on complex roles with nuance and depth.

Williams, known for her controversial character on Girls, has not shied away from speaking out on social issues. She took part in the #MeToo movement and revealed her experiences of sexual assault while on the set of Girls in 2017. Additionally, she has spoken out against racism as well as criticized media coverage of the recent mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida.
